For Community Rights Promoters Refresher Training taking place in Debre Birhan and Samara:

Center for Human Rights has provided tailor-made trainings to community rights promoters drawn from membership based associations such as local elders, idirs, women associations, associations of persons with disabilities and labor unions to promote human rights awareness in general and the rights of targeted social groups (women, children, workers, migrants and persons with disabilities) in particular within their communities in a sustainable manner. Accordingly, community rights promoters were provided this training in Samara in June 2019 and in Debre Birhan in July 2019 after which they have been engaging in human rights awareness raising campaign within the community.

These community rights promoters will be taking refresher training on November 08-10, 2019 in Samara and on November 11-13, 2019 in Debre Birhan.

For Paralegals Training taking place in Debre Birhan and Samara:

As part of its community based human rights promotion and protection activity,  Project STRACE provides  free legal services to  socially vulnerable groups mainly Women, Children, Persons with Disabilities, Workers and Refugees. To this end CHR recruits proficient 4th and 5th year law students who will participate in Paralegals Training and provide voluntary service at its legal aid centers. Accordingly, selected paralegals will participate in Paralegals Training on November 08-11, 2019 in Debre Birhan.

In Samara, selected paralegals underwent the Paralegals training in March 2019 and will be taking a refresher training on November 11-13, 2019.

Media Freedom and Human Rights @ Ghion Hotel

Center for Human Rights, in the context of the STRACE project organizes a training course on Media Freedom and Human Rights   that shall be offered by highly qualified experts for five days from 18 to 22 November 2019 in Addis Ababa at Ghion Hotel. This training aims to attract a wide range of stakeholders, such as organizations and institutions working in or on the media sector as well as organizations and institutions that are interested in using and promoting the positive role of media in human rights protection.

The Center for Human Rights, part of College of Law and Governance Studies of Addis Ababa University, is an academic institution promoting a multidisciplinary scholarship and community services in human rights. As part of its objectives of providing quality academic, research and community services, the Center, in collaboration with the Embassy of Norway and Sida, is implementing a three-year project to support its teaching, research and community services. For the implementation of this Project, the Center would like to hire a competent professional. The tasks of the Project include researches, preparation of training materials, community rights trainings, radio broadcasts and legal aid. The Project implementation covers the Center as well as 6 project areas in Addis Ababa, Adama, Hawassa, Ambo, Debre Birhan, and Semera.

Community Rights Promotion and Protection

CRPP I Sub-Project Manager · Master’s or Bachelor’s       degree in Human Rights,   Law, or other related fields

· At least five years                    (for Bachelor) and three years (for Master’s level) work experience;

· Strong writing skills and experience in report writing

· Excellent command of English and Amharic

·   Assist the Center in the implementation of the sub-Project;

·   Plan, implement and manage the sub-project activities;

·   In consultation with finance and admin staff, ensure that     funds are spent and accounted for in the sub-Project planned   activities;

·   Lead the day-to-day activities of the sub-Project by coordinating project area managers;

·   In consultation with finance and procurement officers, prepare, as required, monthly, quarterly and annual plans of with budget, submit for approval and ensure implementation once approved;

·   Conduct regular monitoring of project centers;

·   Undertake other relevant tasks assigned by the Lead   Coordinator or the Center;
