The Center offers Training for Media Practitioners

Center for Human Rights of Addis Ababa University under Project STRACE-CHR conducted  a three days  training on “ The Role of Media on the Promotion of the Rights of Vulnerable groups” for 25 media practitioners drawn from government and private media from October 21 -23, 2019 at Adama Kereyu Hill Resort Hotel.

Mr. Aytenew Debebe, sub project manager of Community Rights Promotion and Protection welcomed the participants and said that the training is aimed to enable journalists to be well acquainted with national human rights standards and institutional frameworks on the human rights of vulnerable groups. He also added that Media can play an important role in the promotion and protection of human rights of rights of vulnerable groups in particular the rights of women, children, migrants, workers and persons with disabilities.

Kuribachew Hailu, Executive Assistant to the lead coordinator on her opening remark highlighted the activities of the four sub-Projects under project STRACE-CHR which are Community Based Human Rights Promotion and Protection; Policy and Action Collaboration and Diffusion; Multi-disciplinary Human Rights Education and Training and Learning and Partnerships and Capacity Development. She also said that the training is aimed to focus on those particular groups who vulnerable and victims of human rights violations and consequently require protection for the equal and effective enjoyment of their rights.

 The issues covered during the training were Women’s Right, Worker’s Right, Children’s Right Rights of persons with Disabilities and the Role of Media in Promoting Rights of Vulnerable Groups.  

The Center opened offices at Addis Ababa, Adama, Ambo, Hawassa, Semera and Debre Birhan project areas to provide legal services to the project’s target groups and others dwelling in the cities that cannot afford to pay for the legal services.
